Quick Cellphone Buying Tip

1. Research. From a previous post I recommend that you research your phone, instead of just going into a store. In addition, I also recommend researching the accessories that go with your phone!

2. Buy your accessories with the cell phone. Most stores have discounts if you purchase your accessories during the same time you purchase your phone.

3. Buy at least the important ones. A lot of people don’t think of buying a phone case or screen protector until something has already happened to your phone. At that point you had already damaged your phone, it may be harder to find a case on an older model, and you are paying full price because you bought it after you had purchased the phone.

4. Depending on where you live, some states it is illegal to use your phone in the car without a hands-free device. Don’t be the person rushing into a store later because you got a ticket buy the Bluetooth or ear piece before hand!

Tips on Getting A New Cell Phone

If you’re near the end of your contract don’t feel pressured to just renew with your old carrier. You may be paying too much for your cellphone plan or even for your next upgrade. So here are my tips:

1. Check out websites like billshrink.com where you can compare your options on all the major carriers.

2. Prior to going to the store, check for deals you might get on new phones. Also look up specifications and reviews on the particular phone you want.

3. Get your phones from retailers that sell phones from all the major carriers. Basically, you can get the same exact phone from a Costco or Radio Shack $10 to $100 less than a traditional Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon store.

4. Request if the store associate can run your credit check on all the carriers. If you have “not so perfect” or “no” credit you might be surprised with the savings you get by switching carriers or sticking to your carrier.

5. If you end up staying with your original carrier call the actual Customer Care and see if you can get a “customer loyalty discount”.

These my five useful tips to upgrading or getting a new cell phone plan.

Monetizing Your Website

As I previously promised I will be expanding on the concept of drop shipping and other ways to monetize your website. First of all drop shipping is unique because it can also be part of your website’s core content. Drop shipping is best described as having a “relationship” with a warehouse. So to get into the club you do typically have to pay a monthly or yearly fee, but you don’t have to worry about the handling of inventory. All you have to do is set your margin of profit and remember to choose related products. Some people even sell their drop shipping products on eBay.

Another common way of monetizing your site is through Google Adsense. Simply, Google Adsense allows you to put Google Ads and Searches on your site. The majority of these links are “pay per click” links; basically you get paid as soon as somebody clicks on the link on your site. Adding Google Adsense to your site is a must because it’s free to be a member and you get paid.

Similar to Google Adsense and the other recommended way to monetize your site is Affiliate Marketing. In order, to affiliate with a site visit your favorite website or major retailer and find the affiliate rules typically located at the bottom of their site. Unlike Google Adsense where you typically earn through “pay per click,” affiliates allow you to earn commission on their products, and you have more control over how to execute these links on your site.

Next week we will be concluding this series with “How to Optimize your site!”

Choosing Content for Your Website

You have hosting, you own your own domain, and now you need to put something on it. I will give you a few of the most common ways to put content on your site. Before you get started you need to find your niche; I suggest sticking to a topic that you are passionate about. Although I’m not suggesting you do this for free, it makes it easier if you create a site that you are passionate about and are willing to do for free.

The most common website styles are product based sites or information based sites. With product based sites you can sell products you produce yourself or go with drop shipping, which we’ll discuss next week. For information based sites stick to a topic that you know or are interested in knowing more about.

Then next week we’ll talk about monetizing your website….which is really the ultimate goal!

Your Domain

The next step in owning your own web business is registering it! In my last post I wrote about webhosts. Since most webhosts provided this service I recommend going through your webhost. Easy right! WAIT! Before you actually register the name of your domain, you have to choose carefully. There are two ways to go about this process: the traditional process is just using your business name or choosing one related to your niche; the other way is purchasing a “used” domain. Just like a used car, this can be a hit or miss! So it’s important to do your research. You can do research by searching google and using sites that do pagerank testing. Try testpagerank.net to get started!
